If you were born and bred in Krugersdorp or live in the ‘Dorp’ and you have never visited the Krugersdorp Auction Centre on a Saturday morning then you CANNOT call yourself a KRUGERSDORPER!! This year marks the 90th year that the Auction Centre has been in the Nelson/Villa-Vicencia family. Having had a quick chat to Derek Nelson, who is now the owner of the Krugersdorp Auction Centre, Derek informed me that his grandfather, William Villa-Vicencia, who hailed from Spain, started the auction back in 1925. It then passed onto his two sons, Billy and Teddy, who in turn passed it on to Derek. AND…believe it or not, the premises are still where they used to be 90 years ago!!!
Many of us will have fond memories of tagging along with our parents (in my case, my dad) to ‘the’ auction. In those days it was
such a schlepp and we would have much rather stayed in bed instead of walking around looking at ‘boring old stuff’. Now days, we are up at 6.30am getting ready to be at the auction at 8am SHARP, when the auction starts – EVEN on icy cold winter mornings!!!
.
Most wonderful of all is that we have met up with old friends we have not seen in many years. ALL our parents had been KDP Auction trawlers!
And actually bidding on an item that you want is soooooooo exciting! Most of the beautiful antique furniture I now have in my home has been bought at the auction.
So next Saturday, when you are lying in bed thinking about what you are going to do for the day, why not make your way to the Krugersdorp Auction Centre, meet Derek and his cronies, meet US, and join us for pancakes
and coffee while you browse around. You will be surprised who you see and what you find!! And you will love it!! The open air auction is situated on the corner of Church and Fountain Str in Krugersdorp central. (Opposite the old Traffic Department and close to the Krugersdorp taxi Rank) For more info contact Derek Nelson on 082 921 8472. https://www.facebook.com/krugersdorpauction/
