Extract from Ngama Tented Safai Camp Website, which sums up this beautiful place –
“Ngama meaning ‘place of the eagles’ is a delightfully intimate, family run tented safari lodge, that offers a true African experience. Where guests fall asleep to the sounds of the bush and are pampered with the warm hearted service that embodies the soul of Africa.”
How blessed was I to be invited by Devin Scott to visit Ngama Tented safari Lodge in the Guernsey Private Nature reserve, near Hoedspruit. www.ngamalodge.co.za.
Ngama has 6 tented chalets (cant really call them tent tents, as they far exceed what one would imagine to be JUST a tent!
) all with their own wooden decks and views into the thick, and at this time of the year, lush bush. All are linked with wooden walkways which in turn link up with the main lodge area, the pool and lounging areas.
Each tented chalet is beautifully and tastefully decorated to give it JUST the right mix of Colonial elegance and bushveld charm. Devin and his wife have taken this once rundown place and turned it into an absolute gem!! I was VERY excited to be allocated Tent no 4, which is nestled the furthest from the main lodge area. Completely private with an on-suite bathroom as well as an outside shower. My best!
I spent a peaceful afternoon sitting on my deck, writing in my journal, taking photos and taking full advantage of the sights and sounds around me. I even had a herd of zebra that came sniffing around the tent, followed by a large troop of rowdy monkeys who popped in to see what I was doing

At 7pm I ambled up to the stunning boma area to join the other guests for an authentic
South African Bushveld braai. What a delight to see my way lit up with long parafin torches, all the way into the boma area, where the chef and staff were waiting to welcome us with drinks and typical South African snacks. Dinner was a complete culinary delight! A 3 course meal, ALL cooked on the central fire. I was honored to share my dinner table with my host Devin, where we got into long discussions about the do’s and dont’s of running a successful lodge, wildlife poaching, family etc. (LOVE getting into these discussions
)
I was in bed by 9pm, (that’s what the bushveld air does to one
) and slept like a log.
Was woken up at about 5am by inquisitive monkeys (I had left my tent screens open) This was great as it gave me time to have a look around and take in my surroundings as the sun was rising. How absolutely breath-taking and beautiful!. Breakfast was served on the deck of the main lodge, overlooking the dam in front of the lodge. Unfortunately I had to leave after breakfast and head on home.
Thanks again to Devon for a wonderful experience. I would so recommend Ngama Tented Safari Lodge to friends and family, and especially to all our FB followers. For further information, contact Devin Scott at info@ngamalodge.co.za or visit their website at http://www.ngamalodge.co.za/
