Driving past “Something Country Restaurant”, except for the hordes of cars parked outside,
one can be forgiven for mistaking the buildings and gardens for a stunning home in the country. The farm is owned by Sue and Hardy Cronje and the restaurant by Sue’s brother, Michael. Mike took over the restaurant about 10 years ago and has been going from strength to strength since then. Something Country had their humble beginnings as an outlet shop for Sue’s business, Country Wood Treasures, and due to its popularity, was slowly developed into a tea garden and restaurant, which is now synonymous with cyclists, locals and tourists alike.
Set in beautiful well-tended gardens, under towering oak and indigenous trees is
this little gem in the Cradle of Humankind. Patrons can expect above average service from the waiters while Philip and Taki cook up a storm in the kitchen. Dishes have wonderful names which have been taken from family members, like “Robyn’s Pizza” which is a delightful cheezy pizza with a touch of chilly and rocket. And “Sue’s breakfast”, one of my favourite, which is the more healthy version of the full English breakfast, which is affectionately known as “Hardy’s Breakfast”. The restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week.
So this weekend, make your way to the Cradle of Humankind in Muldersdrift, Kromdraai and visit with Mike and Vicky to experience their warm hospitality and “something country” cuisine.
