AMAFU FORREST LODGE. Kampersrus.
What can I say about Amafu?? Well lets put it this way…if I am in Kampersrus, or in the area, Amafu Forest Lodge is my first choice to do a stay-over.
Owned by Lelani Trollip and her husband, Amafu is nestled under the Mariepskop Mountains, surrounded by exquisite, age old cycads, which are showcased in the beautiful rock gardens which have been lovingly and tastefully landscaped by a professional cycad expert. It is so centrally situated that guests can use the lodge as their “base camp”, while visiting all the awesome attractions in the area. The lodge is in the little town of Kampersrus, which is about 25km from Hoedspruit town and approximately 450km from Johannesburg. The closest airport is the Hoedspruit Airport – Eastgate Airport www.eastgateairport.co.za
Among some of these attractions are:
- Nyani Cultural Village
- Khamai Reptile Park’
- Kruger National park
- Camp jabulani
- Hiking trails in the area
- Moholoholo Animal Rehab Centre. All within comfortable driving distance from Amafu.

The tent interior
The lodge boasts five spacious and beautifully decorated, private self-catering units and two stunning luxurious tents, (my favourite) which are also self-catering. So comfortable and each with their own charm. I have to mention that the views from the decks of the tents, over the Hoedspruit area are breath-taking! Bed and breakfast is an option and the lodge also has its own restaurant, aptly named “Rainforest Café”.
What makes this lodge extra special are the owners and staff. Nothing is too much trouble for these wonderful people. Corrie, the manageress of Amafu is a wonderful friendly woman who always goes out of her way to make all their guests feel comfortable and welcome. It is no wonder that their guests come back time and time again. Amafu Forest Lodge would definitely be a 5 thumbs up for me ![]()
