Once in a while, in my line of work, one come across an absolute gem of a place, one that just envelops you and becomes the benchmark of all “FABULOUS places to stay in Southern Africa” See my FB page https://www.facebook.com/shelbewheretentedcamps/ “Tented Camps, Lodges and Fabulous Places to stay in Southern Africa”. One of these places is STIRLING MANOR. Situated in the heart of Hartebeespoort, with sweeping views of the Hartebeespoort Dam and the Magalieburg Mountains as their backdrop. In my previous post I chatted about the history of the Hartebeespoort Dam wall.
Well Stirling Manor is JUST around the corner and up the road from the dam wall . You can’t miss the place. A huge sign, with the Coat of Arms of the manor house makes sure you don’t miss the steep turning. Once at the gate, a quick beep of the intercom gets the huge wrought iron gate opening for you, and whoop…. you’re in.
More than likely, Rabson, the butler-cum-porter-cum-all round awesome guy, will be waiting to welcome you and take your luggage straight to your room. Once inside, you will be in awe of the sparkling chandeliers hanging in the reception area and the sheer luxury awaiting you.
Laurette Hanekom and her husband started Stirling Manor Boutique Guest House 12 years ago, when they bought property in the area. It was their goal from the beginning to make this guest house one of the best in the area, with sweeping beautiful panoramic views over the Hartbeespoort Dam.
Laurette took the initiative and decided that she would like a classical theme and this can be seen throughout the guesthouse. As you walk into the reception area you are in awe when you look up and see the beautiful chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and the wonderful very decorative wallpaper on the wall. Once the guests have signed in they are then taken upstairs, where all but 2 rooms are situated on the top floor. Here you will also find the dining area, again with beautiful views over the Hartbeespoort Dam. All the rooms have views of the dam, and each one is uniquely decorated with a classic theme. Luxurious linen, well sourced furniture and beautiful white and muted colours form part of the décor. The rooms are carpeted with top quality plush fluffy carpets and all have on-suite stunning bathrooms (I love bathrooms!) There is the bar area where guests can gather in the evenings to enjoy a drink or a cocktail while chatting to their fellow travellers. Added to that, there is a very comfortable lounge area with wonderful bulky leather furniture and the very popular massage chair which proves to be a hit with business men and women that have spent the day travelling. Every experience at Stirling Manor has been a memorable one. Mostly due to the professionalism and friendliness of the well trained staff, and the fact that Laurette, without missing a beat, is the perfect host. Easy to talk to and always a kind listening ear.
