BRAND NEW VERNEY’S CAMP
Machaba Safaris is delighted to introduce our brand new Verney’s Camp which opened last month (May 2018) in a remote 10,000 hectare private concession in the south eastern section of Zimbabwe’s iconic Hwange National Park.
Verney’s Camp boasts ten luxury safari tents (8 double / twins and 2 family tents), all built on wooden decks at ground level, tucked perfectly under the shady arms of the teak forest and overlooking a busy waterhole frequented by Hwange’s famous elephants. Each tent has been carefully positioned for maximum privacy and enjoyment of the views, connected by natural pathways to the central guest area. Tents are beautifully appointed complete with ensuite bathroom with shower, toilet and double vanity basins.
At Machaba Safaris we pride ourselves in our community development and initiatives ensuring the wildlife, local communities and guests all benefit. Machaba co-sponsors a local school in Hwange National Park which guests can visit as a half day tour. The tour also stops at a small rural village and the Wild Dog Research Centre.
Rates are fully inclusive of accommodation, all meals, laundry, lodge activities, return vehicle airstrip transfers (for drive-ins from Victoria Falls), drinks including most alcohol (excluding imported and premium drinks) levies and taxes.
Access is via a 40 minute flight from Vic Falls Airport to Manga Airstrip and then a 45 minute road transfer. It is a 3.5 hour drive from Victoria Falls via Hwange Main Camp.
Machaba Safaris is a family owned collection of 4 safari experiences including 3 camps in Botswana’s iconic Okavango Delta, namely Machaba Camp, Little Machaba and Gomoti Plains – plus the new Verney’s in Zimbabwe. Our lodges offer excellent value for money and a true wilderness experience including mekoro (canoe) safaris, game drives and walks.

The family and I made the trip to Hoedspruit again this past weekend, to enjoy some “rest and relaxation” at Raptor Retreat Game Lodge.
As always, we had the best time. Keith and Sharmaine are the perfect hosts and always make our stay one to remember and cherish.
Carolina is a small town in the Mpumalanga ‘Grass and Wetlands’ Region, near Chrissiesmeer, Badplaas and Machadodorp.
One of the perks of living in the CRADLE OF HUMANKIND is that there are so many stunning places to visit that there really is no excuse to be bored or complain about not having enough content . One of these stunning places is Brookwood Estate Trout Farm http://www.brookwoodtroutfarm.co.za/
Once in a while, in my line of work, one come across an absolute gem of a place, one that just envelops you and becomes the benchmark of all “FABULOUS places to stay in Southern Africa” See my FB page https://www.facebook.com/shelbewheretentedcamps/ “Tented Camps, Lodges and Fabulous Places to stay in Southern Africa”. One of these places is STIRLING MANOR. Situated in the heart of Hartebeespoort, with sweeping views of the Hartebeespoort Dam and the Magalieburg Mountains as their backdrop. In my previous post I chatted about the history of the Hartebeespoort Dam wall.

So in between towing Jason’s bike with my car to try and get it started, playing “flinch” with Joshua, begging Luke to please move back home and trying to find suitable wives for my 5 sons (A full blog post all on its own ), I get to stay and check out the most stunning places. (part of the job my dear) On Monday night I stayed at the famous “Afrique Boutique Hotel” in Poortview on the West Rand. www.afriquehotel.co.za You would love it. So sophisticated, so elegant, so classy, and this is the part that will make you platz…original paintings everywhere! The owner, Nafsika, is a huge fan of Porchie, Georgia, Este Mostert etc, so you can only imagine all this creative genius everywhere! As you drive into the grounds you are overshadowed by 3 storey stained glass windows and bricks and sandstone buildings. Very beautifully built. Stepping inside, your eyes are immediately drawn to the double volume ceilings and the gorgeous exposed wooden beams.
As promised I said I would tell you all about the Rabbit Hole Hotel and Restaurant in Krugersdorp North. Krugersdorp North is the beautiful “old” part of Krugersdorp, where they still have wonderful old houses, most being built during the 1920’s and 30’s.
